Back when Def Jam was lookin like they was gonna grab a gatorade n sit the next quarter out he brought Jeffrey Atkins, Shawn Carter, and Earl Simmons into that building making them a credible record label once again. Not only that but having all three artist create their own high grossing companies with legit platinum selling artist themselves. I think Irv fucked up when he started playing the rapper role a lil too much going on the radio trying to assassinate 50’s character calling him a snitch and shit. Lyor Cohen wouldn’t have carried himself in that manner. Sometimes you gotta let the rappers do the rapper shit. That not only killed the Murda Inc brand but killed Irv’s name as a brand itself making it hard for artist to want to associate with him in terms of business. He still doesn’t get enough credit for what he did for rap music in the late 90’s.
